TRANSYLVANIA AND MOLDAVIAN MONASTERIES
7 Day journey by air
1st Day Frankfurt/Main – Bucharest / Otopeni
- Sinaia
With the daily LH flight, we arrive in the first
hours of the afternoon on the airport Bucharest-Otopeni. From here we
drive 90 km into the mountains, to Sinaia, that was the city where the
royal family Hohenzollern had their summer residence . D/O/B
2nd Day Sinaia - Brasov - Miercurea Ciuc
In the morning we visit the Castel Peles, which was
constructed by Karl I in the bavarian style, as a remembering to his
birthplace. After that we will drive to Bran to visit the castle which
is also known as castle Dracula. In the afternoon we will visit Brasov,
the largest city of Transylvania, where we can see, as sights, the Black
Church, the old City Hall, as well as parts of the fort. In the late
afternoon, we arrive in Miercurea Ciuc, the center of the Szekler in
Romania. D/O/B
3rd Day Miercurea Ciuc - Suceava
In the morning we drive through the most eastern
part of Transylvania, where the largest part of descent Hungarian population,
named Szekler, is living. We drive trough the Carpathian Mountains trough,
the Bicaz gorge, past to the Lacu Rosu (red lake) into the Moldau. We
visit the two largest nun monasteries of Europe, the monasteries Agapia
and Varatec, with over 1000 nuns. We drive than to north, in order to
visit the monastery VORONET, which is also named the "Capella Sixtina”
of the Romanian Churches. D/O/B
4th Day Suceava - Bistrita
In the mornings we visit first the ceramic center
from Marginea, where black ceramic is still produced using the old technology.
After that we see the monastery Sucevita, that is worldwide known because
of its exterior wall painting. Over the Gutii mountain we come to the
Moldovita- monastery where the Mother Tatijana gives us all details
about the orthodox monasteries. In the afternoon we drive through the
Tihuta pas back to Transylvania and we arrive in Bistrita. Here we can
visit the protestant church, that is well known from the Middle Ages
because of its guilds flags. D/O/B
5th Day Bistrita – Sibiu
We are in the north part of Transylvania, in Nösler
country. From here, we cross the entire province to have a picture about
the churches castles, that the saxon have built 9 centuries ago. The
trip goes on over Reghin, Tirgu Mures, until we will arrive in Sighisoara,
at noon time. Because of its castle, Sighisoara is very often compared
with Rothenburg (Germany). Here we can see the Old Clock Tower, the
Birthplace of the sovereign Dracula and the Josef-Haltrich-secondary
school. In the afternoon we will visit the church castle Biertan, which
was for centuries the residence of the Protestant bishops of Transylvania,
Medias with the Margareth Church, that has the highest clock tower from
Romania and also the villages Axente-Sever and Slimnic with their german
church castles. In the evening we visit the mountain village Sibiel,
to see there the museum of glass icons. In the end we are invited by
the mountain farmer to their home to have dinner and a drink. O/B.
6th Day Sibiu – Pitesti
In the morning we will visit the old town with its
sights, the Bruckental Palace, the Protestant cathedral and the Catholic
church, that was constructed at the time of Maria Theresa. In the afternoon
we drive toward into the south, to Valachia, through the Red-Tower pas.
On the way we can also see the oldest monastery from Romania, the Cozia
monastery. D/O/B.
7th Day Pitesti – Bucharest - Frankfurt/Main
After one hour trip on the highway, which connects
Pitesti with Bucharest, we begin the city tourin the capital of Romania.
We visit the Patriarch Church (the residence of the head of the orthodox
church from Romania), the village museum as well and also the Palace
of the Parliament, the second largest building of the world after the
Pentagon. In the first hours of the afternoon, we arrive at the Otopeni
airport and we fly with the LH back home.
